The coalition is making energy plans that will reduce the UK's reliance on fossil fuels. Moves to boost investment in renewable energy and nuclear power stations were set out by the Government as it promised to reduce Britain's dependency on fossil fuels and cut carbon emissions. Chris Huhne, the Energy and Climate Change Secretary, pledged the "lights are not going to go out on my watch" as he announced 32 measures to make the country less reliant on imported oil and gas.

Businesses' energy bills could rise by 26 per cent in the next decade due to policies to cut emissions in the UK. In contrast, domestic bills would only rise by 1% in the same period, according to reports published by the Department of Energy and Climate Change. The Government is calling for input from various groups into changing the way in which the UK consumes and produces.

Energy controller switches off heating when you are not in Tuesday 10th August 2010

Consumer watchdog, Consumer Focus, said it was worried that fuel prices would rise further in the wake of British Gas seeing its profits rise 98 per cent in the first half of this year. Audrey Gallacher, head of energy policy at the organisation, said: "We are concerned that energy firms may actually raise prices this winter. With only small price cuts for customers in the last two years, despite wholesale prices being half what they were at their peak and beginning to fall again, customers will rightly be outraged if this happens."

Intelligent heating controller saves hundreds of pounds Monday 2nd August 2010

On the market are many energy-saving gadgets which are claimed to be making a big difference to the amount of energy you use in your daily life. Among them is a Radiator Booster, which circulates the hot air that rises off your radiator much more quickly around the room. It claims to reduce energy costs for households by about £10 per month because it saves the boiler from doing as much work. A better choice would be the intelligent heating controller available from HeatingSave, which benefits both homes and businesses.

Meet your carbon emissions savings target with energy controller Tuesday 27th July 2010

Britain is not on course to meet its climate change targets for reducing carbon emissions, the Government was warned by the independent Committee on Climate Change. The Government needs to reduce carbon dioxide by 34 per cent (on 1990 levels) by 2020. However in its second progress report to Parliament, the committee said the sharp fall in UK greenhouse gas emissions of 8.6 per cent last year is almost entirely due to the recession, and that the proportion of the drop due to actual climate policies is but "a fraction" of the total.

Heating controller so effective in cutting carbon emissions Tuesday 29th June 2010

The Guardian newspaper is running a Lighter Later campaign to have the clocks permanently changed, adding that continuing to move the clocks forward in summer, so they become one hour ahead of British Summer Time and two hours ahead of GMT, could also deliver carbon savings. Research the paper has commissioned has been presented at an event at Parliament. Dr Elizabeth Garnsey, who led the study for Cambridge University, said: "The carbon savings associated with this clock change are significant, equivalent to the carbon footprint of the production of 1,800 plastic bags for every home in Britain every year, or taking around 200,000 cars off the road."

Building energy management system better choice for Scottish homes Thursday 24th June 2010

Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) have been angered by the news that the Boiler Scrappage Scheme brought forward by the Scottish National Party (SNP) Government has run dry two days after its launch. The SNP's scheme was along the lines of similar programmes in England and Wales so that people with old or faulty boilers would be given money to help buy and fit new, energy efficient models. Labour MSPs were furious that there was only money available for 5000 people.

Heating control savings compensate for falling BP shares Wednesday 16th June 2010

Those who have pension funds or other investors must act now to make up for the falling BP share price. More than £56 billion has now been wiped off the company's market value, since the Deepwater Horizon rig sank, killing 11 men and causing the huge oil leak on April 20. BP was, until this crisis, Britain's biggest company. It made up 7 per cent of the FTSE All Share Index and paid out around 15pc of all the dividend income in Britain. If you have a company pension, it probably invests in a tracker fund. Three-quarters of funds in money purchase pension schemes are invested in trackers, totalling £8.2bn. If your fund tracks the FTSE 100, BP makes up around 6pc of it.

Energy management system better than music festival pledge to cut emissions Monday 7th June 2010

Going to a music festival this year? Well, attending a traditional mass mecca of peace and love such as Glastonbury has been shown, ironically, to do more damage to the eco-system. That is why ten UK music festivals have pledged to cut their emissions by 10 per cent this year.
