Improving the energy efficiency of UK households should be top priority, UK GBC argues
Improving the UK housing stock’s overall level of energy efficiency should become a top priority for the Government, in order to prevent energy bills and CO2 emissions rising even further, the UK Green Building Council has argued.
According to a news source, the UK GBC suggested that addressing the problem would permanently reduce household energy bills while creating thousands of jobs in the process. The organization also strongly suggested that the Government should spend £300m for every £1bn of Green Deal plans taken out – or alternatively offer finance through social investors or community funding using tax reliefs offered by the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS).
By implementing this set of measures, interest rates could be brought down to between four and five per cent. Local authority lending from a fund made up of capital from reserves or borrowed from central government could also result in interest rates of between five and seven per cent, the organization argued.
UK GBC also suggests relaxing the so-called “Golden Rule” – which states that the expected financial savings should be greater than the loan repayments attached to the energy bill – in order to allow households to repay loans more quickly and therefore reduce the overall amount repaid.
Implementing a solution designed specifically to optimize a central heating system’s level of energy efficiency is also something users should take into account, and this is specifically where HeatingSave could put its extensive experience and multiple features to very good use.
