Dorset boarding school embarks on £2m energy saving project
A boarding school in Shaftesbury, Dorset, has decided to implement an extensive set of energy saving measures designed to help it save in excess of £130,000 a year on its energy bills, a news report in the local media has recently revealed.
St Mary’s independent Catholic school will install PV solar panels on its buildings and in the school grounds, which should provide enough electricity to cover roughly 20% of its current needs, as well as a new biomass boiler, a new air handling unit for the school’s swimming pool, 1600 new LED lamps and valve insulation to improve the heating infrastructure.
The energy saving project is currently estimated at around £2 million, with funding coming from an investor-funded, shared savings scheme called ESCO.
