High energy costs result in loss of over 5000 hospitality venues in 12-months
Hospitality Market Monitor from CGA by NIQ and AlixPartners, have published a report this month stating 5,736 pubs, restaurants, bars and cafes’ have lost licensed premises in the last 12 months. Shockingly, this means one in 18 of Britain’s licensed premises have been lost since June 2022.
Britain had 100,176 licensed premises at the end of June 2023 and this is expected to further decrease says Managing Director at AlixPartners, Graeme Smith. “The number of licensed premises will drop below 100,000 in the next few weeks, highlighting the impact the last few years has had on the sector” he said.
One factor contributing towards the loss of hospitality venues are rising energy bills, that businesses are struggling to keep up with.
These are unprecedented times for businesses in the hospitality sector, however a British manufacturing company called HeatingSave has invented a computerised AI heating management system, approved by the Government on its Energy Technology list. HeatingSave’s solution is to cut gas consumption by better managing the heating plant and equipment that venues already have.
A HeatingSave system could cut your energy bills by 25% to 50%. Construction manager at Forest Holidays, Dave Coster said, “We chose HeatingSave to better manage room temperatures to make the cabins more efficient to run. In some, we cut fuel consumption by 66%.
"The ability to centrally control the cabin's temperature also prevents guests from tampering with the heating controls and leaving the heating at a high temperature when they leave" he added.
