Pub closures reach record highs as energy and inflation become too much

The UK hasn’t seen such an avalanche of pub closures for over 10 years. Accountancy firm, Price Bailey reported 729 pub businesses went bust in the last 12 months. The accountancy firm found this to be an 80% increase from the previous year.

223 pub businesses entered insolvency during the second quarter of this year and this was up from 200 in the first quarter. Pub energy bills have increased significantly since the governments energy support package was narrowed down at the end of the first quarter.
