Smart metering could boost business energy saving
The use of smart meters could help businesses become significantly more energy efficient, a recent research report commissioned by the DECC (Department of Energy & Climate Change) has been able to reveal.
The report by the Carbon Trust for government called ‘Forward Look: Smart Metering-enabled Innovation in energy management in the non-domestic sector’ looked at how different innovative products and services could give customers “actionable advice”.
Research found that better products and services could help energy managers at smaller non-domestic customers more effectively than basic data analysis, suggests the report, with tips on how much money they could save or what their payback period for energy saving measures would be.
Efficient and effective Building Energy Management Systems are capable of delivering extensive monitoring and control options, compared to basic controls. They typically employ data from a variety of sources (boiler flow and return sensors, internal and external temperature sensors, occupancy sensors, humidity sensors, etc.), and enable the perfect optimization of a building’s boiler-based central heating system.
