Supplier SSE to push up energy prices by 8.2%

Energy supplier SSE has just revealed plans to increase its energy prices by 8.2% starting with November, which means that the average annual standard dual-fuel energy bill will rise to £1,224.

According to the SSE, this price increase is related directly to higher costs of buying wholesale energy and paying to deliver it to customers’ homes, plus government levies. The price rises will affect about 4.4 million electricity customers and 2.9 million gas customers, not including those on fixed-price tariffs.

However, the company also revealed that the increase in energy prices will not affect all of its customers equally. For example, customers in the North of England and central Scotland would see the smallest increase, of 7%, in their dual fuel price, while customers in the more well-off South East of England would see the biggest, up 9.7%.

SSE’s announcement (which is likely to be followed by the other Big Six energy suppliers) proves once more that implementing a solid and reliable Building Energy Management System is something every company and household should very seriously consider, on the long term, since it’s one of the most effective methods for companies, as well as home owners, to cut their overall energy bills.

Building Energy Management Systems are capable of delivering extensive monitoring and control options, compared to basic controls. They typically employ data from a variety of sources (boiler flow and return sensors, internal and external temperature sensors, occupancy sensors, humidity sensors, etc.), and enable the perfect optimization of a building’s boiler-based central heating system.
