Ofgem guidelines to help tenants save up to £190 on their energy bills

People living in rented accommodations might actually be able to save up to 190 pounds on their energy bills if they switch suppliers and go for the best available deal, the latest Ofgem guidelines suggest.

According to a news report on the matter, a survey carried out by the energy market regulator has revealed that 77% of tenants have never switched their energy suppliers.

Ofgem is advising tenants to look out for any clauses in the tenancy agreement relating to energy suppliers, informing the landlord or letting agent after switching power providers and taking meter readings when moving into a property as well as when moving out.

Philip Cullum, Ofgem’s Partner, Consumer Policy and Demand Side Insight said: “At a time when nine million British households are renting and budgets are tight, it is important that consumers are clear about where they stand when choosing and switching their energy supplier.

“Ofgem’s clear guide and top tips are intended to empower consumers when navigating the energy market and help them to find their best energy deal. It is all part of Ofgem’s work to make the market simpler, clearer and fairer for consumers.”

Implementing home energy management solutions is yet another way of cutting down on energy bills, and responsible landlords should actually consider investing in such measures, given the fact that they represent a long-term investment their tenants will surely appreciate.

The HeatingSave system allows home owners to cut energy bills by up to an impressive 30%+. It is built around the idea of optimizing the energy consumption levels within any area with the help of an advanced heat-loss algorithm that creates a specific profile for any building and based on that, switches heating on later if its warm and off earlier if its cold.
