How Sports Clubs Can Save Money on Heating & Energy Bills
At grassroots and beginners level, it is vitally important that sports clubs have the ability to save money where necessary. From football, rugby and cricket clubs, to swimming, hockey and gymnastics clubs, there is an endless list of sports clubs and societies that benefit from saving money on heating and energy bills.
And what’s spurred this on (if you’ll pardon the pun) is a great incentive by a top football club.
Premier League clubs aim for net zero
Sky have partnered with a Premier League football club in order to tackle the issue of climate change and to try and answer the Government’s plea to become net zero by 2050.
Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to be the first Premier League club to take part in the first ever net zero carbon football game at an elite level when they host Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 19th September 2021. Known as #GameZero, the aim is to demonstrate the green steps that the sporting world can take to work towards a zero-carbon future; #GameZero partners want the game to raise awareness of the threat of climate change and inspire fans to make simple changes that will help reduce their carbon footprint as well as setting an example for lower league clubs and grassroots levels.
Making savings at grassroots and other similar levels can prove to be a lifeline for many sports clubs. It allows them to pump their money into areas that matter and that will improve the facilities, equipment and standard of training – rather than just being able to afford to keep the club/clubhouse running. Here’s the solution your club needs:
Sport club venue energy management system
The easiest and most cost-effective method for sports clubs, of all levels, to save money on their heating and energy bills is with a building energy management system.
HeatingSave’s building energy management system (BEMS) is capable of saving 20-to-30%+ on a sports club venue’s heating and energy bills. It can better run any building, cut costs and improve security.
It provides heating patterns and a heating diary to give you complete control over when your building is heated, meaning you can automatically avoid heating/cooling areas that are not used (during player/participant working hours when the clubs are not running, nighttime/closed hours and infrequently used areas of the building such as toilets, changing rooms and hallways).
Our BEMS produces algorithms to learn the heat-loss profile of each heating zone within your building to apply heating/cooling at the latest possible moment in time – saving you money on unnecessary heating time.
Additionally, HeatingSave’s BEMS uses automatic occupancy detection sensors to understand if a room or area of your building is being used, lowering the temperature or turning the heating off when areas are not used and then quickly bringing the areas back to temperature when they are occupied. This is particularly useful for areas of your club’s venue such as the showers and changing rooms, which are only used once or twice on a match day, therefore heating them for the entire game duration would be a waste of energy and money that your club could be investing in the clubs development.
BEMS improves sports club venue security
HeatingSave’s building energy management system includes a room booking system which only heats areas of the building when used. This bolsters building security because it links to our smart card access control system, meaning only authorised personnel with a smart card can access certain areas of the building. For example, if a certain age group is using the facility earlier in the day, then you can grant them access to the building and internal doors using the room booking system and their smart cards. However, if a different age group has booked to use the facility later on the same day, then you can ensure that only they have access into the building, meaning you are in control of who uses the building at all times.
BEMS can reduce a club’s carbon footprint
Not only does a building energy management system dramatically reduce your heating and energy bills, but it also has the ability to reduce your sports clubs carbon footprint, keeping you in line with the Government’s recent outcry for companies and businesses to reduce their carbon footprint and become net zero by 2050.
This falls in line with the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), taking place in Glasgow between 31st October and 12th November 2021. COP26 is asking countries to come forward with ambitious 2030 emissions reductions targets that align with reaching net zero by the middle of the century. This is where HeatingSave’s building energy management system meets these requirements and gets businesses, sports clubs and alike industries, to be well on their way to reducing their carbon footprint by decreasing the amount of energy they use to run their business/building.
“I would have no hesitation in recommending HeatingSave to any facility or organisation that runs intermittent operations such as ourselves.”
